Artist Statement
Calvin once said to Hobbes,
“As my artist’s statement explains, my work is utterly incomprehensible and is therefore full of deep significance.”

Marie grew up in Berkeley, California, where she was exposed to a multitude of cultures. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where, as a history major, she had her first introduction to art history. At age 60 she started studying the practice of art for the first time, exploring oils, watercolor, drawing, collage, mixed-media, 3-dimensional design, as well as space planning and architectural design.
In 2006, after 3 decades in Portland, Oregon, Marie moved to Santa Fe, a great city to inspire an artist. She works from a collection of strange and interesting objects in a studio on the plaza of Aldea de Santa Fe. The gallery section is open several afternoons a week; call for times.
Marie has several pieces in private collections in the Pacific Northwest. “Silk Purse/Sow’s Ear” in Santa Fe, New Mexico was her first juried show.

Lighten up. Enjoy the ironies of life. Be intrigued by complexity.
